Course Outline:
This is a special topics
course that will cover selected topics in advanced quantum
mechanics. The prerequisites for this course are Physics 234-235.
For this quarter we will study a selection of topics drawn from
the following list:
- Path Integrals
- Symmetry
- Berry Phase
- Aharonov-Bohm Effect
- Entanglement
- Quantum Information and Quantum Computation
This quarter we will also use ED, which is accessible
through Canvas, as a tool for further discussion of the course
material.
In terms of course
administration, there will be regular problem sets (~30%), a
midterm (~30%) and a final exam or final project (~40%).
References:
There are many good texts on
quantum mechanics. Here are a few that cover the basics:
Introduction to Quantum Mechanics
by D. Griffiths,
Principles of Quantum Mechanics
by R. Shankar,
Quantum
Computation and Quantum Information by M.
Nielsen and I. Chuang.
Around the topics of
quantum information and quantum computation, there are many recent
references. Classic notes by
Preskill can be found here.
There are many more texts and lecture notes that can now be found
online.
Problem
Sets:
The assignments will be posted on canvas.
The background for this webpage was created
using DALL-E 2 and the request: "Create an impression of quantum
entanglement."
