Course Outline:
This is a special topics
course that will cover selected topics in advanced quantum
mechanics. For this quarter the primary focus will
be on quantum computing and quantum information. A broad list of topics includes:
- Principles of Quantization
- Symmetry
- Quantum Information
- Quantum Computation
- Quantum Error Correction
This quarter we will also use ED accessible through
Canvas as a tool for further discussion of the course material.
In terms of course
administration, there will be regular problem sets (~35%), a
midterm (~25%) and a final exam or final project (~40%).
References:
There are many good texts on
quantum mechanics. Here are a few that cover the basics:
Quantum
Computation and Quantum Information by M.
Nielsen and I. Chuang,
Principles of Quantum Mechanics by R. Shankar,
Introduction to Quantum Mechanics
by D. Griffiths.
Around the topics of
quantum information and quantum computation, there are many recent
references. Classic notes by
Preskill can be found here.
There are undoubtedly many more texts and online lecture notes
that might be useful.
Problem
Sets:
The assignments will be posted on canvas.
The background for this webpage was created
using DALL-E 2 and the request: "Create an impression of quantum
entanglement."
