Pyrrhuloxia. South Padre Island (Convention Center), 3/30/2005.
These birds look like a female cardinal on Rogaine -- note the higher
crest than a cardinal. They don't range north of the Rio Grande Valley.
This was the only one we saw on our trip, and unfortunately it wouldn't
show me more than its backside before taking off. * 800 x 600 * (433KB)

Painted Bunting (immature). Goose Island State Park, 4/1/2005.
Too bad we didn't see the adult male of the species -- vermilion front,
bright blue head, green back/shoulders and black wings! * 800 x 600 * (527KB)

Lincoln's Sparrow. South Padre Island (Convention Center), 3/30/2005. * 800 x 600 * (749KB)
